The Mouth of Sauron

The Mouth of Sauron is not very well known to the Lord of the Rings fans that haven't read the books because the scene is only in the Extended Version of the Return of the King and in the book. He is the Messenger of Sauron, for since Sauron lost the Ring he cannot take form in the real world. The Mouth comes out of Mordor when Aragorn asks the "Lord of the Black land come forth and may justice be done upon him." He is described as "A tall and evil shape, mounted upon a black horse… The rider was robed all in black, and black was his lofty helm; yet this was no Ringwraith but a living man." He was very quickly beheaded after he had taunted Aragorn and Gandalf.

Gandalf

Gandalf is a wizard, of the order Istari. He was an important factor in the victory of the War of the Ring, but during that conflict his body was destroyed by a Balrog, a demon of fire and shadow, and his spirit fled back into the West. He was reborn in a much more powerful form as Gandalf the White. He was gifted with an outstandin foresight, a very helpful factor in the War of the Ring. Gandalf finally left Middle-Earth when he sailed over the sea with Bilbo and Frodo.

Sauron

Sauron was know as many names, The Dark Lord, The Enemy, The Eye, The Necromancer, The Lord of Mordor... He began as the lieutenant to an even greater enemy but that threat was eliminated. He fled and did not take part in the war where his master fell. In the end of the Second Age he was defeated in a one on one battle with Isildur, but his Ring lived on. If he gets the Ring back he can again rise to power and cover all of Middle Earth in a Second Darkness. That is the reason Frodo needs to destroy the One Ring.

Frodo

The Fellowship of the Ring begins with Frodo's Birthday. Gandalf, at this time, was not certain about the whole story of the One Ring, so he warned Frodo to avoid using it and to keep it secret. Frodo kept the Ring hidden in his trunk, until Gandalf returned. He did in fact find out what the Ring was. When he throws it into the fire it reveals its true form when the writing appears. It reads: One ring to rule them all,
One ring to find them,
One ring to bring them all,
And in the darkness bind them.
